Aluminum is one of the most versatile and ideal metals for manufacturing parts for many industries – from aerospace and automotive to household lighting and cookware. It is quite evident that such a variety of applications requires unique shapes and non-standard sizes of aluminum profiles. And how is this achieved?
The process of forming aluminum profiles is a complex and multi-stage process. It is carried out using a die. A die is a set of components made from special tool steels, each of which is responsible for its stage in the formation of the future profile. Therefore, first, toolmakers spend many hours working on the die: they cut the working section, polish it, and nitrify it. Then the pressing process begins. A die is installed inside the press. Then, under high pressure (of 3000 tons), the heated aluminum passes through special openings in the die and takes on the shape according to the die. In other words, pressing is a forming technology in which pressure is applied to a material to deform it (through bending, stretching, etc.) according to the size and shape of the die, and then the material retains this shape permanently.
Presses are suitable for mass production, as pressing can quickly produce the same product over and over again. With the help of presses, a wide range of products of various sizes can be formed, starting from simple shapes that require a single process and extending to more complex items that necessitate multiple processes. The flexibility provided by die production in terms of product design and size allows for the production of a wide range of products.
